Today on ‘things that make me ashamed of my fandoms’
Indeed. However, the posts that single out all the faults of modern Doctor Who and pin them on Moffat are ridiculous and annoying and most of the time fail to notice that he’s simply following on from Russell’s work.
And when I say that Russell T Davies is the one you are looking for when you cry out “blockbuster plots! Impossible girls! Illogical mess!”, I do not say that in condemnation. I *like* those aspects of Russell’s and Moffat’s work. (Mostly. Except the illogical part, in which case I do point you towards RTD as the main aggressor. But his focus was the character drama so he gets away with that.)
But anyway. What ALSO annoys me is the “Never apply logic to Who” because just because it doesn’t have an in-real-life precedent doesn’t mean that it doesn’t have its own internal logic. And just because you don’t like it doesn’t make it any less logical. That’s sort of the opposite of how logic works, you see. So that WHOLE post annoys me from beginning to end for a myriad reasons.
Reblogging in particular for the “Never apply logic to Who” thing. It really bothers me that people condemn the show for this when people have worked their asses off for 50 years to make it make sense. I feel like by and large they do about as well as they possibly can making the old series continuity work considering that 1) there was no internet or Tardis Wiki for the writers to work with and 2) a ton of the episodes were destroyed. And Moffat is better at old Who continuity than most. I admit that I still can’t make heads or tails of series 6 but to imply that the entire show makes no sense because time travel makes it impossible for the show to run like BSG or something? Fuck that. It doesn’t have to be ~hard!!!~ sci-fi to still be sci-fi or to be worth watching. I mean, shit, George Lucas sucks ass at internal logic and Star Wars is legendary, so people can cut Doctor Who a break.
i love laughing about the friend zone because it’s so dumb like you know most of those dudes aren’t even IN the “friend zone” they’re in the “ugh god not this dude again” zone
An Adventure in Space and Time is all like “William Hartnell would be proud to know Doctor Who is still running,” but like, the whole film is about how this man’s entire self worth was based around being the Doctor, and now no one remembers him. Even the fans prioritize Jon Pertwee and Tom Baker. If he time traveled to the present, he could walk down the streets of London and not turn a head.
That is so depressing, and I just had to share that with all of you.
But seriously do you ever think that all those who died in the battle of Hogwarts probably went on the chocolate frogs’ cards . And Teddy opening one before going on the train to Hogwarts and seeing his parents smiling at him, so they were actually there to see him off on his first year.
